Catherine Pileggi, 54, the girlfriend of slain retired California businessman Ronald Vinci,70, was indicted on a murder charge Wednesday. Authorities are not sure whether she will face the death penalty if she is convicted. Pileggi allegedly fractured his skull, stabbed his chest, sliced his throat and shot him in the head. She is being held without bail at the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach. The State Attorney’s office will schedule an arraignment hearing to formally charge her with first-degree murder. Fort Lauderdale police believe Vinci wanted to end his relationship with Pileggi, a woman he had known for two decades. Authorities came to the conclucion that after Vinci was allegedly killed on June 28, she tried to enlist the aid of his handyman in disposing of the body at sea. The defense pleads not guilty.
