Some of the judicial circuit courts in Florida have an alternative sentencing program that can help criminal defendants get into a special treatment program if their crimes related to alcohol, drug, or mental problems. Sometimes showing the initiative to enroll into one of these programs earns leniency from the prosecutor and/or judge in a case. Some judicial circuits have drug-specific courts geared toward the rehabilitation of drug offenders. Their sentencing guidelines differ from those of other offenses.
