Miami Judge Will Determine if Drug is Acceptable for Euthenization

A Miami Judge will determine whether a drug given to euthenize dogs will be given to euthenize Manuel Valle for allegedly
shooting and killing a Coral Gables police officer when he pulled him over for running a red light in 1978. Valle’s execution, initially scheduled for Aug. 2, has been put off until Sept. 1st. due to the pending hearing on the safety and efficancy of the drug, pentobarbital. Valle would be the first Florida inmate to be executed under the new rules and is wondering whether the drug in the amount prescribed by the state could cause him to suffer a painful death. The Supreme Court was divided on the issue and ordered to provide documents from the drug’s manufacturer, Lundbeck, regarding the safety of pentobarbital. The Danish Company, Lundbeck, has written twice to Gov. Rick Scott urging him not to use the drug for capital punishment. Do you think he should be euthenized with medicine given to dogs? Do you care whether he receives pain from the injection after learning that he allegedly killed someone? The court will ultimately decide whether it would it be cruel & unusual punishment to put this man to death using this drug.
