Two Miami Men Arrested For Charity Scams

Two men who were involved in charity scams in Miami have been arrested. The scams targeted the Haitian-American community in South Florida. Jeff Atwater, who is the Chief Financial Officer in Florida, stated that Jacques Albert Caltixte stole $300,000 in state funds by using his charity, Haitian American Association Against Cancer. The funds were designed to provide cancer screenings for Haitian-American women.According to authorities, Caltixte obtained the payments by using false documents. He received the payments between 2011 and 2013. Earlier in July 2014, Philippe Bourciquot was caught using Haitian Creole ads to lure people into a Ponzi scheme. Investigators stated that Bourciqout had received over $$3.1 million in donations. It is estimated that 300 investors donated to Bourciqout.

Both men are in the Miami-Dade County Jail. Bourciqout has a bond of $200,000, and Caltixte is being held on a $20,000 bond. The jail records have not stated whether either one of the men has an attorney.
