Woman Accused of Robbing Man with Cerebral Palsy

Fort Lauderdale Armed Robbery Defense AttorneyLauderhill police arrested a 31-year-old woman on May 16 in connection with the armed robbery of a 22-year-old man with cerebral palsy. The woman is currently being held on $7,500 bail, with police believing that the woman specifically targeted the man.

The crime took place on March 30, just after the reported victim had obtained $500 at a Lauderhill ATM on Northwest 19th Street. The money was to be used for payment of rent, with surveillance video supposedly capturing the accused following closely behind the individual.

The victim indicated that he had taken notice of the thief before then being pushed down soon after that recognition. The money in question was then taken by the thief, who quickly ran from the scene. Over the ensuing six weeks, police had come up empty in their search for the criminal in question.

During that time frame, Lauderhill police received a number of tips that came after video of the crime was released. Eventually, that narrowed their search to the accused, who possesses a lengthy arrest record. One of those tips also led to the discovery of the accused’s whereabouts, where she was subsequently placed under arrest.

While awaiting trial, the woman will be seeking to hire a Fort Lauderdale criminal defense defense attorney. In the best-case scenario, she would hire someone with the requisite level of experience in this particular area of the law. That would very clearly describe Kenneth Hassett at Hassett & Associates.

Having handled cases of this nature in the past, Hassett and his staff are well aware that not every arrest is an open-and-shut case for the prosecution. The job of a Fort Lauderdale armed robbery defense attorney is to make sure that they offer the best representation possible.

They know that the tips presented to police may be connected to an ulterior motive from those offering the information. Potential reward money could serve as a motivating factor or perhaps the individual presenting the tip holds a grudge against the accused. Finally, the pressure to arrest anyone for a crime can often compel police to sometimes bring in anyone who’s experienced frequent brushes with the law.

So if you or someone you know is in need of a Fort Lauderdale armed robbery defense attorney, contact Kenneth Hassett at Hassett & Associates at 954-791-3939. They will zealously protect your rights and offer the best possible defense against such charges.
