Since 1994, Alan M. Gold never told authorities what happened to Lynne Friend, the Hallandale mother who mysteriously vanished, and left behind a 5-year-old son. However, just recently Gold finally confirmed what investigators had suspected but could not prove due to circumstantial evidence: He stated that Friend’s angry ex-husband, Clifford, murdered her after a bitter custody dispute, then dumped her body off a boat into the ocean.
After receiving immunity from prosecution Allan Gold, who had long refused to cooperate against his pal Clifford Friend, admitted to helping dispose of the body; prosecutors indicted Clifford Friend, 57, last year on a first-degree murder charge in his ex-wife’s disappearance, but set him out on a bond while he awaits trial. Gold also gave a sworn statement at the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office, detailing to the extent he helped dispose of the corpse and almost got caught by U.S. Customs agents looking for drug smugglers.
Unfortunately after several searches of the ocean floor, Lynne Friend’s body is still not found. Because of Gold’s decision to cooperate, the once circumstantial murder case that happened in South Florida 19 years ago has now given prosecutors more ammunition to add to what they believed was already “a solid case.”
