On Wednesday, December 21, 2016, a young woman who won the Miss Miami Lakes, USA beauty pageant was arrested after attacking a party guest with a baseball bat, according to police.
The woman, who is 26 years of age, was arrested in Hialeah, Florida and charged with aggravated battery, battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the report by Hialeah police, the young woman got into an argument with someone who attended a party she threw to promote her business. She subsequently told him to leave and things escalated.
Hialeah police stated that the woman picked up a blue Nike aluminum baseball bat she leaves in her living room and gave him a shove with it even though he was leaving. She then swung the weapon, striking him hard in the right shoulder.
According to the police report, the woman and a man attacked the male guest outdoors while he was fallen on the ground. The victim was soon after taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were considerable. The man suffered a laceration beneath his left eye that was heavily bleeding.
Police stated that most of the guests at the party, including the young woman who was arrested, were extremely intoxicated.
The woman is a contestant of the 2017 Miss Florida USA pageant. Last year’s competition was chock full of controversy after the winner was stripped of her crown for what the pageant claimed was a violation of the rules.
The young woman’s Miami battery defense lawyer made a statement about the incident, claiming that the facts of what happened would eventually come to light and that she would be absolved of all the charges against her. He followed up that they would vehemently fight the criminal charges and prove that his client is innocent.
The executive producer of the Miss Florida USA pageant reported that he had spoken to the woman following her release from jail on bond. He stated that she believed she would be exonerated once the truth was revealed. He followed that her status in the pageant might depend on the outcome of her arrest and the incident.
In conclusion, the pageant’s executive producer stated that there is an “ethics code of conduct” but that everyone was waiting to see what would happen when the young woman’s court day comes.
