A 19-year-old man appeared in Broward County Court recently after being charged with the theft of a Volvo vehicle with a disabled dog in the back. Police say that after parking the vehicle, he left the dog in it, and the dog died of heat stroke. Police said that the man was already on a GPS monitor from a prior arrest. The monitor placed him in a parking lot where the car had been stolen. The vehicle owner said that she left the vehicle locked with the engine running and windows down when she went into a Dollar Tree store. When she came back, her vehicle and the dog were gone. A towing company in another city unknowingly removed the Volvo with the dead dog in the back. The towing company then called the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
