Fort Lauderdale Assault Lawyer

Ex Dolphin Davone Bess Charged with Assaulting An Officer

Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver, Davone Bess, has just received several criminal charges for his conduct at the Fort Lauderdale Airport. Apparently, Mr. Bess first grabbed the attention of the police department by repeatedly dancing around in the airport and allowing his pants to drop several times. A concerned officer asked him if he needed any assistance, and Mr. Bess responded by grabbing a random cup of coffee and squeezing it until it expelled hot fluids that spilled onto the officer’s shirt.Bess continued to act erratically by taking an offensive fight stance. The officer tried to defend himself by hitting Bess in the leg with an ASP. The ASP apparently had no effect on Bess, since he continued to instigate a tussle. This time, Bess removed his shirt, and the officer called for help from additional officers. Once the officers arrived, they took Bess into custody. They charged him with resisting an officer (without violence) and simple assault against an officer. The police believe that Bess was under the influence of narcotics, which caused him to act in a disorderly fashion. Previous videos and pictures of Bess may have implied that he at least used marijuana on occasion.

Sources are saying that Bess may have had some personal problems that contributed to his behavior. Nevertheless, he conducted himself in a manner that called for legal intervention. Bess is facing a few serious charges along with having his reputation ruined. Simple assault on a police officer is punishable by a jail term of one year and a fine of up to $1,000. Resisting without violence is also punishable by a one-year jail term and a fine of up to $1,000. Additionally, if convicted, Bess will have a criminal record that could prevent him from being able to obtain future employment once his football career ends.

If you or someone you know is facing similar charges, contacting a Fort Lauderdale assault lawyer or a Fort Lauderdale assaulting a law enforcement officer defense lawyer for representation is paramount. An experienced attorney can possibly find a hole in the case that may allow for a dismissal. He or she will also have the ability to negotiate with the judge for probation in the case of a conviction. Hassett & Associates is a successful firm that handles such cases on a regular basis.
