According reports, an investigative panel’s recommendation to the Supreme Court persuaded the court to suspend Broward County Judge Gisele Pollack without pay, pending the final outcome of the incident. Judge Pollack allegedly violated the code of judicial conduct during her struggles with alcoholism. According to authorities, she relapsed just 16 days after agreeing to be sober and later had the DUI crash. Because of these alleged violations, she now faces criminal and professional charges from the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission.
According to her legal team. Pollack relapsed after the death of her mother, with whom she was very close. Because she was emotionally impaired from her mother’s death, Ms. Pollack found it harder to deal with the ongoing struggles of her adult son, who was disabled after a surgery. The goal of her legal team is to have her suspension eventually lifted and ask the court to reconsider suspending her with pay. Pollack’s term ends in 2016.
Although no formal charges have been filed for her DUI case, Pollack’s case was moved to Miami-Dade County. Prior to these incidents, Judge Pollack ironically oversaw cases in a drug court.
