Deputies have arrested a man in connection with a Lauderdale Lakes road rage incident that involved one driver opening fire on another. The victim claimed that the incident began as he drove south on State Road 7, when the perpetrator began driving erratically, honking and screaming profanities at his passenger window.
The man then fired a single gunshot and followed the victim as he pulled his Jeep into a parking lot, where, as the victim stated, “He got out of his vehicle (…) went around to the passenger side of his vehicle and then took another shot at my car.” When the victim was later shown a picture of the man arrested in connection with the crime, he immediately identified the man as his assailant.
The other vehicle involved in the incident was registered to the suspect’s girlfriend, who claimed that her boyfriend had borrowed it during that time. She also revealed that he had kept a handgun at her house until she forced him to get rid of it and that she had witnessed several other road rage incidents involving him. While the man admitted to previously owning a gun, he denied all involvement in this road rage incident. He has, however, been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public. His bail has been set at over $40,000.
