An undercover female officer was hanging out on a street corner along Federal Highway on Friday night when a car pulled up and the driver started talking. The undercover officer was trying to trick her “customer” into agreeing to an amount for sex. The police cameras were on and when they came to a deal he was charged with soliciting prostitution and now faces 60 days in jail and a $500 fine if convicted. Residents were complaining that prostitution was on the rise along Federal Highway south of downtown so now Fort Lauderdale police officers are cracking down. This weekend’s undercover operation resulted in solicitation charges against eight men. They ranged varied in age from 26 to 54 and included one guy on a bicycle. Authorities say that a city can never be rid of this, but if you stay on top of a crime considered “victimless,” the numbers will go down. Do you think it is right to crack down on prostitutes? Do you think that it is ok to be in the prostitution business if you are trying to feed your family?
