On Friday, the lawyers of Matthew Bent asked Judge Michael Robinson for a new trial. Bent, who was convicted of aggravated battery last month, was cleared of the more serious attempted murder charge. His counterparts, Jarvis and Mendez, are serving an 8-year-term and 11-year term respectively along with lengthy probations. However, days after the final verdict was given juror Karen Bates McCord wrote a letter to the judge saying she misunderstood his instructions and would have stood on a not guilty verdict had she known she could hang the jury. Bent is facing a maximum 15-year prison term when he is sentenced on July 23rd. Do you think the judge will oblige the defense team? For more information go to the Sun Sentinel.
