Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested four people from Broward County for catching undersized grouper. The incident occurred between Islamorada and Long Key. Deputy Michael Cofield was on patrol and asked the five people how the fishing was going. When they said it was going well, he asked to see their biggest fish, a 21-inch red grouper. However the group caught five other undersized grouper that are illegal to catch. The four people were cited for possessing undersized red grouper and were also warned for not having valid fishing licenses. Unfortunately, most people do not realize that they could go to jail for catching undersized fish.
