Alert on Synthetic Drug Use

Local governments across South Florida are exploring new ways to ban synthetic drugs due to the potential violence associated with them. The warnings spread after Rudy Eugene was under the influence of “bath salts” last month when he attacked a homeless man and chewed on his face in Miami. On Sunday, police in North Miami Beach issued an alert after a homeless man allegedly tried to bite an officer’s hand while under the influence of synthetic marijuana. Another man Brandon De Leon, 21, was arrested Saturday after he allegedly went into a Boston Market in North Miami Beach and acted inappropriately. Two officers were present at the scene and while taking him to jail, De Leon allegedly began slamming his head on a glass divider inside a squad car and yelled “I am going to eat you” at one of the officers. Later on, De Leon tried to bite an officer’s hand while he was being treated for his injuries. It seems biting is the common factor for synthetic drugs.
